Why Do Some Attars Feel Oily on the Skin?
Attar is genuinely oil-based, so some degree of texture on the skin is normal, but how oily it feels depends heavily on the carrier oil used and how concentrated or resin-heavy the blend is. Thicker carriers and resin-dense attars will always feel richer than a lighter formulation.
What Affects the Texture
A carrier like sandalwood oil or a resin-heavy base naturally sits heavier on the skin than a lighter carrier such as jojoba, which absorbs more quickly. Attars high in natural resins, such as those built around amber or heavy musks, tend to feel noticeably thicker and more lingering than lighter floral attars.
Getting a Lighter Feel
Applying a smaller amount and giving it a few minutes to absorb before dressing usually solves most of the greasy feeling, and it typically settles into the skin within fifteen to twenty minutes regardless of the carrier used. Slightly warming the bottle in your hands before applying can also make a thicker attar spread more easily and feel less heavy on first contact with skin.
