Something clean, understated and low in projection is the right call for an interview — this is one occasion where you want to be remembered for what you said, not what you were wearing.

What actually works in a small room

Interviews usually happen in small offices or meeting rooms with little air movement, so anything heavy or with strong sillage will fill the space and can read as overpowering before you’ve said a word. Light florals, soft woods, and clean musks tend to be the safest territory. Skip anything you’ve bought in the last week, since you won’t yet know how it behaves on you over several hours.

Application matters more than the bottle

  • One or two sprays maximum, applied well before you leave the house
  • Nothing sprayed directly onto interview clothing, which can hold scent longer than skin
  • Avoid very new or very unusual fragrances you haven’t worn confidently before

It’s also worth thinking about the room itself: a small, air-conditioned meeting room holds scent far longer than an open-plan office, so scale your application to the space you’ll actually be sitting in.
