Do Expensive Perfumes Last Longer?
Not necessarily — and this is one of the most useful myths to unlearn as a shopper.
Longevity comes primarily from concentration and note composition (heavy base notes last longer than light top notes), not from price. A well-made, high-concentration perfume oil can comfortably outlast a far pricier designer eau de toilette built on lighter, more fleeting notes.
What price does reliably reflect
- Rarity and cost of specific raw materials (real oud, for example, is genuinely expensive).
- Brand positioning, packaging and marketing, which add cost without necessarily adding longevity.
- Sometimes, but not always, more careful composition and maceration.
