Bergamot in Perfume
If you’ve ever wondered why so many perfumes open the same bright way, bergamot is very often the answer.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit, grown predominantly in Southern Italy, whose peel oil is expressed (pressed) to produce a bright, slightly bitter-floral citrus note. It’s one of the most widely used top notes in all of perfumery, prized for the elegant, sophisticated lift it gives an opening, distinct from the simpler brightness of lemon or orange.
Why it pairs so well with oud
Bergamot’s bright citrus lift creates a genuinely satisfying contrast against oud’s deep, resinous weight — a combination we use in our own Bergamot Oud, and one you’ll see repeated across countless Arabian and Western fragrances alike.
Frequently asked questions
Does bergamot last long in a fragrance?
On its own, no — it’s a top note, gone within the first 15-30 minutes. Its value is in the opening impression, not longevity.
Experience the pairing in our Bergamot Oud.
