Higher resin content means a denser, darker, heavier piece of wood that will sink in water, smell noticeably rich even unburned, and yield considerably more aromatic oil when distilled. Low resin content wood, by contrast, looks and smells much more like ordinary timber, with only faint traces of the characteristic oud aroma.
