How to Test Perfume Properly
Most bad perfume purchases come down to bad testing, not bad taste.
The rules
- Test no more than two or three scents in one session — your nose fatigues fast.
- Apply to skin, not just a paper strip — your own chemistry is the only true test.
- Wait at least 20-30 minutes before judging; ideally, wear it for the full day.
- Test in a neutral environment, away from other strong smells (coffee counters, other perfume counters).
Frequently asked questions
Is a paper strip test ever useful?
Yes, as a quick first filter across many options, but never as the final decision — skin is the only real test.
