Perfume oils are generally more stable than alcohol-based sprays, but they’re not indestructible — a little care goes a long way.

- Keep bottles out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources — both accelerate the breakdown of aromatic compounds.
- Store upright, tightly capped, to limit air exposure and evaporation.
- A drawer or cool cupboard is ideal; avoid bathrooms, where heat and humidity fluctuate constantly.
- Avoid decanting into open or poorly sealed containers for long-term storage.
Do perfume oils go off?
They’re generally more stable than alcohol-based fragrance because there’s no alcohol to evaporate and destabilise the blend, but the aromatic oils themselves can still oxidise slowly over time, especially with poor storage. Stored well, most perfume oils comfortably last several years.
