Reed Diffusers: How They Work
Reed diffusers look almost too simple to work, and yet they quietly do a very consistent job.
A reed diffuser works through capillary action: porous reeds draw scented oil up from a reservoir bottle and release it gradually into the air as it evaporates from the exposed surface. No flame, no electricity — just steady, passive fragrance release over weeks.
Getting the best from one
- Flip the reeds every few days to refresh the exposed surface and maintain scent strength.
- Use more reeds for a stronger throw in larger rooms, fewer for subtlety in smaller spaces.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and heat, which can degrade the oil faster.
Frequently asked questions
