Oud chips are pure, natural pieces of resin-infused agarwood, burned exactly as they are. Bakhoor is a manufactured product, usually wood chips soaked or infused with perfume oils, resins and other fragrant ingredients, then dried before burning, so it is a compound scent rather than a single raw material.

Raw Material vs Prepared Blend

Pure oud chips give you exactly what agarwood smells like when burned, unfiltered and true to the wood itself, which is why they are prized by purists and can be genuinely expensive depending on grade. Bakhoor, by contrast, is designed as a finished, ready-to-use fragrance experience, often blending base wood chips (sometimes agarwood, sometimes a plainer wood) with oud oil, musk, amber, rose or other perfumery ingredients for a fuller, more rounded scent when burned.

Which to Choose

If you want the pure, unfiltered character of agarwood, oud chips are the way to go. If you want a fuller, ready-made fragrance experience for the home, bakhoor is the easier and more affordable option. Our complete guide to bakhoor and complete guide to oud both explain this properly, alongside our complete guide to perfume. Browse our bakhoor range to compare styles.
