Why the Order Matters

Spraying perfume directly over finished makeup risks the alcohol content disturbing the finish, especially with liquid foundations or anything with a delicate setting powder on top. Applying to pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears — before you start your makeup routine gives the top notes time to soften slightly by the time you are dressed and ready to leave.

A Few Practical Notes

  • Spray from a short distance and let it dry rather than rubbing it in, which can bruise some of the finer notes
  • If you want a boost before heading out later, a light touch to hair or clothing is safer around finished makeup than a direct respray to the neck
  • Keep fragranced body products layered underneath, then perfume on top, for the longest-lasting overall effect
